  Citizens Restoring Congamond,  December 2008

Linda Champagney - Press Secretary

Little eyes are sparkling with anticipation, little ears are perked up listening for sleigh
bells and presents will soon be unwrapped.  The calendar year is also wrapping up; so what has CRC done this year?

Our Membership Drive in June & July brought in many new and returning members. Membership fees help fund the annual lake treatment for invasive weeds.
Our June Lake Clean-up and Beautification Day made a difference in the trash you didn’t see while swimming or boating, and what you did see in plantings at the boat launches.  The Babb’s Rink re-building project made quite a bit of progress! In June Babb’s was part of the CT Department of Tourism’s Annual Statewide Open House and the Art Show and Wine Tasting event held there had lovely weather, pleasant company and made some much needed funds for the Babb’s project.

The annual 4th of July Boat Parade had a Vikings On Congamond theme and even though the weather wasn’t the greatest, we all had a fun time. The August Poker Run was wildly fun and financially successful for the lake maintenance fund.  The Labor Day Cruise Congamond car show was better attended and more successful than last year, and the Fall Festival in October was fun, but next year will be much improved upon. Button-Up Babb’s got a lot of things done that needed to be accomplished before the snow flies. Thanks to the Boy Scouts from Enfield, Suffield, and Westfield and their accompanying adults!  Thanks also to Village Pizza and Gigi’s II of Southwick and to Suffield Pizza & Zanto Restaurant of Suffield for feeding our volunteers that day.  The CRC Christmas Party, which is open to all, will be held at the newly remodeled Cove on Saturday, December 6th.  $35 per person for a delicious buffet and dancing in beautiful new surroundings. Looking ahead, on Saturday February 7th we will host an ice-fishing derby at the north end of the lakes. More details to follow!

Thank you to everyone who donated time, energy, items, money, talent, skills, food, and enthusiasm to all of our projects this past year.  The CRC & Babb’s Boards continue to meet over the winter preparing for next year. We’ll be starting up again with our monthly meetings the second Tuesday of each month beginning in April.  If you have some input as to activities you’d like to see next year, please drop us a line at our web site!

We wish you a wonderful holiday season.  Please remember our Troops overseas.
